And the reasons range across all manner of distractions and responsibilities.
For some of us, we are now doing a full day of work while looking after little ones that would usually be in school.
For others, we struggle without the formal work environment of an office in which to work, and colleagues to keep us focused.
Of course, we are in unpreced… I mean er… uncertain times.
And we are all facing our own challenges big and small.
However, if you are a legal professional having to work-from-home you might be faced with limited secretarial support.
You might think: Why do I need secretarial support? I type my own work and I make my own coffee.
Well, I can’t help you with the coffee but perhaps I can demonstrate how outsourcing your typing by dictating your work could significantly improve how efficient you are with your use of time.
Now let’s do the maths here in 3 quick steps…
Step 1)
In 10 minutes, a person speaks on average 1250-1500 words.
Let’s be conservative and use the low end to make my case to you even more compelling.
So, we have a ‘steady’ speaker having dictated a document of 1250 words in 10 minutes.
Step 2)
Now, a person types on average 38-40 words per minute.
Let’s take the high end on this one and assume we’re dealing with someone who can type fast at a speed of 40 words per minute for extended periods of time.
Step 3)
Finally, let’s take those 1250 words and divide them by 40 (words per minute) to get the time taken for that work to be completely typed.
1250 / 40 = 31.25
or 31 minutes and 15 seconds.
So, what does that mean?
Remember: this is someone who is a steady speaker and a relatively fast typist.
The slow speaker took 10 minutes to steadily dictate the document
while they took 31 minutes and 15 seconds typing fast.
That’s more than a 200% time efficiency loss.
This means the same person could have saved over 20 minutes of time dictating instead of typing that work.
It means it takes over 3x longer to type than dictate.
Ok, you get the point but just imagine saving an extra 20 minutes of time for every 10 minutes you spend on something.
Yeah, but what does that really mean?
In short, it means:
Your time is valuable!
By outsourcing your typing to Document Direct you and your firm will have more billable hours available.
You will be able to move through matters more efficiently and relay correspondence to clients more quickly.
The result of that is more revenue generated and better client service.
– and at the very least you will dramatically free up your time to do other things.
If you let us help, then it also means that you could come out of a meeting and spend 10 minutes dictating your work (rather than half an hour typing it).
Head back to the office (which these days might only be a commute from the kitchen to the lounge*)
And find your dictation typed up, fully formatted, and politely waiting in your inbox for you.
All at a transparent price-per-minute-of-speech and available to you 24 hours a day.
365 days a year.
This gives you the peace of mind that you’ll be covered no matter how long this goes on for.
It all comes down to how you want your lawyers spending their time,
Do you want them typing…
…or do you want them doing more revenue-generating, people-helping, lawyer stuff?
